Super Hero Mushrooms by Cap’n J

20140607_101029My precious little man, Cap’n J is a five year old that is outgoing and totally boyish, including interests in sports, and super heroes. He is growing up, finishing kindergarten today, and becoming a very unique person.

Lately, I struggle to find things that we have in common. He seems to blend so easily with the men in his life, his dad, grandfather, and my fantastic fiance, Johnny Null. I sit on the sidelines and wait for my moments.

I wait for our hikes. Cap’n J is interested in learning about maps, watching bugs, and picking through scat as we try to guess what made it. He loves to write too, listen to music, and cuddle while we read together. Summer is finally here and I am looking forward to our time.

As I was dreaming of sitting on the front porch drinking iced tea and reading The Hobbit or pitching our tent in a sweet little grassy spot, Cap’n J surprised me.

He could not be more supportive, even when it comes to my love of photographing fungus. I never would have thought that mushrooms would bring us together though. When he drew these super hero mushrooms I beamed. Maybe we have more in common than we thought. We love each other enough to connect in even the most unexpected places.
